Thanks for the suggestion. It makes a lot of sense, especially for trying a board out properly before it goes live.

Two things that can help:

1. Test with a copy of your real data, from the admin panel
Our free Migrate add-on supports your current forum software. It imports members, groups, forums, threads, posts, attachments, tags, prefixes, polls, conversations, reactions and more, and it runs entirely from the admin panel, so no SSH is needed. An import can be paused and resumed, which keeps it safe on shared hosting.
On your dev install, point it at a copy of your production database (for example, a backup restored into a separate database) rather than the live one. You can repeat the import whenever you want fresh data. The migration guide is here: https://raxboard.com/en/migration

2. A sample data generator
We already use an internal content seeder for our demo boards. We will look at turning it into an add-on that works from the admin panel:

• you choose how many members, forums, threads and replies to create;
• content is generated in small batches, so it is safe on shared hosting;
• one click removes everything the generator created.

Forum content comes first, as you suggested; clubs and events can follow later.

We will post an update in this thread when there is news.
